Yvette Michelle Reyes is a self taught artist and muralist from Toledo, OH.Growing up in a constantly changing environment, with a childhood marked by tragedy, YMR found solace and comfort in art. They continued to turn to their imagination and creative expression to cope with the many challenges of their upbringing. Today their art continues to be a powerful outlet for self-discovery and storytelling with each piece serving as a reflection of their personal journey.
YMRs art is an autobiographical expression that speaks in icons, symbolism, and metaphors. They use a variety of media to produce 2D work including oil paint, paint marker, watercolor, printmaking, oil pastels and good old fashioned pens. Their work can be described as fantasy surrealism. It explores themes of identity, emotion and interconnectedness, and offers a glimpse into their inner world, serving as a testament to their resilience and determination.
