Yvette Michelle Reyes is a Toledo based artist who has used art as a method of self exploration, expression, and healing since childhood. Using a variety of media, including oil and acrylic paint, paint marker, oil pastels and ink pens, they create dreamscapes featuring trees, water, the cosmos and fantastical women with flowing hair. Their current work in progress is an autobiographical mixed media series that highlights housing insecurity, and its greater impact.
With a deep love and passion for their city, Yvette submitted a design to the City of Toledo Flag Competition, being selected as one of the Top 10 Finalists out of 68 eligible entries. YMR's artwork has been featured in Khroma fall 2017, Out On the Streets, and Swell Magazine, Volume 1, Issue 1. They are the proud recipient of the Arts Commission 2024 Accelerator Grant Cycle 4, and a 2024 Sylvania Plein Air Purchase prize winner. They have donated custom pieces to charitable causes such as Toledo School for the Arts' Undisclosed Fundraiser 2019, WAKT community radio station, Waterhouse Bath and Kitchen World Toilet day 2022 (a fundraising for Water.org) and A Night in the Spare Room, an event benefiting homelessness 2023.
